Police in Morristown New Jersey arrested a man who has been accused of sexually assaulting a teen girl.
The victim is reportedly a 14-year-old girl from Morristown, NJ. According to Morris County prosecutors, the suspect admitted to having some kind of contact with the underage victim.
The 20-year-old suspect, who resides in Morristown, NJ, faces criminal charges for aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, criminal sexual contact, and child endangerment.
If the suspect is convicted on the most serious charges of aggravated sexual assault, he would be subject to severe penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2(a), a person who commits an act of sexual penetration with a young victim can be charged with a first degree felony. A conviction for first degree aggravated sexual assault could result in a sentence of 10-20 years in NJ State Prison.
The suspect could also face deportation proceedings because he is said to be an undocumented immigrant. Morristown NJ police have already notified U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) about the suspect’s current status. Once the criminal case has been resolved, the suspect could potentially be subject to deportation from the United States.
Meanwhile, the suspect was being held by authorities at the Morris County Correctional Facility in Morristown, New Jersey. His bail amount was set at $150,000. If the suspect does manage to secure his release from police custody by posting bail, he will be required to avoid contact with any minors while the sex crime charges against him remain pending.
