Mount Olive NJ police are looking for a man who allegedly stole money from a vending machine at a gas station in Budd Lake, New Jersey.
According to law enforcement, the theft took place at the 76 gas station, which is located at 18 Route 46 in Budd Lake, NJ. The suspect allegedly broke into a vending machine at the gas station and took an undisclosed amount of cash.
Store employees later contacted the Mount Olive Police Department, which dispatched officers to the scene. Police conducted an investigation and obtained video surveillance footage. The video images reportedly show the suspect committing the theft.
According to authorities, the suspect is a heavyset white male who arrived at the gas station in a two-door sedan. He allegedly used some sort of tool to smash open the lock on the vending machine door and then removed the component that contained the money. The suspect reportedly drove away from the scene after stealing the cash.
At the time of the theft, the suspect reportedly wore a light blue t-shirt, dark blue pants, and white sneakers.
If the suspect is ultimately identified and arrested, he would face severe criminal penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3, theft of movable property can be classified as a third degree felony if the value of the stolen items exceeds $500. A conviction for third degree theft could result in a sentence of 3-5 years in New Jersey State Prison.
