Rockaway Borough NJ police are investigating a recent armed robbery at the Public Storage located in Rockaway Borough.
The theft crime occurred around 5:22 p.m. at the Public Storage on Route 46 in Rockaway Borough, New Jersey. According to authorities, a man entered the building and approached an employee. The suspect was wearing a black ski mask over his face and brandishing a handgun. He allegedly threatened to shoot the worker unless the worker handed over cash.
After the suspect had an undisclosed amount of money in hand, he reportedly ran out of the business, got into a motor vehicle, and drove off. He was last seen heading west on Route 46 in Rockaway Borough, NJ.
Detectives with the Rockaway Borough Police Department are actively investigating the robbery and looking for clues that might reveal the suspect’s identity. At this time, police have been unable to determine the identity of the suspect.
If and when law enforcement identifies, locates, and apprehends the suspect, he would be subject to serious criminal charges for armed robbery, theft, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. A conviction on the most serious charges of armed robbery could potentially result in a sentence of 10-20 years in New Jersey State Prison. That’s because N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1 stipulates that anyone who commits a theft while using a deadly weapon like a handgun or a knife can be charged with a first degree criminal offense.
