The Mountain Lakes Police Department is investigating a series of car burglaries and auto thefts.
Most of the vehicle break-ins and thefts have involved luxury automobiles. The cars were parked in residential driveways when the suspects allegedly broke into the cars and drove off.
According to law enforcement officials, the auto thefts typically occurred early in the morning when the vehicle owners were still asleep.
Several of the stolen cars have been recovered by police, including a 2011 Lexus and a 2014 BMW 6 Series. Both motor vehicles were found in Newark, New Jersey.
Mountain Lakes NJ police detectives are investigating the auto thefts and searching for suspects. One potential suspect is reportedly already in police custody; however, he has yet to be criminally charged in connection with the theft incidents.
The Mountain Lakes Police Department has issued a warning to local residents to lock their motor vehicles. Police also stated that vehicle owners should never leave the keys in their cars.
