A Montville NJ cop faces drunk driving charges after allegedly getting intoxicated and then driving his patrol car while still on duty.
According to Morris County prosecutors, the suspect was behind the wheel of an unmarked patrol vehicle and traveling on a road in Montville when something happened. At this time, it is unclear if the suspect was involved in a motor vehicle accident or if he was pulled over by another police officer.
The suspect has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and cited for careless driving.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the very serious DWI charges, he could potentially lose his driver’s license. On top of that, the suspect may also be subject to severe discipline because of his job as a police officer.
While the charges remain pending against the suspect, he has been suspended from the Montville Police Department. He is said to be on paid suspension, with Montville authorities currently conducting an investigation into the suspect’s on-the-job actions.
