Police in Linden, NJ arrested a man who allegedly performed a ritual sacrifice at a local cemetery.
According to authorities, the suspect killed and then decapitated several live chickens at Rosehill Cemetery on Route 1&9.
Police said that the suspect used machetes to mutilate the chickens. It is believed that the mutilation was part of a ritual sacrifice. The sacrifice allegedly involved the decapitation of the chickens, as well as the smearing of chicken blood on a number of headstones.
The suspect reportedly placed the dead chickens near grave sites before fleeing the scene in his car.
The suspect, who hails from Wharton, NJ, was later arrested after police obtained a warrant. Police conducted a weeklong investigation into the incident before obtaining the arrest warrant.
The suspect has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and animal cruelty.
After the suspect was arrested and booked, he posted a $25,000 bond and was released. He had a court date scheduled in Union County Superior Court.
