Riverdale NJ police recently arrested a man who was allegedly behind the wheel of a car that crashed into a bicyclist on a local road.
The accident took place during the early morning hours. According to authorities, the 25-year-old suspect was driving an Acura when he attempted to make a left turn at the intersection of Kenner Court and Riverdale Road in Riverdale, New Jersey. While turning, the suspect allegedly crashed into the 41-year-old victim, who was riding a bicycle on the roadway.
The victim, who resides in Wanaque New Jersey, was knocked off the bike and sent flying across the hood of the suspect’s vehicle. As a result of the crash, the victim sustained injuries to his arms and legs.
After the car accident, the victim was taken to Chilton Medical Center in Pompton Plains, New Jersey. Once he arrived at the hospital, the victim was treated for his injuries.
Meanwhile, Riverdale NJ police officers arrived at the scene of the accident and conducted an investigation. Police officers spoke with witnesses, who said that they believed the suspect was possibly “traveling at a high rate of speed” when he made the left turn just before the accident. Moreover, witnesses told police that they could not say with certainty whether the suspect used his turn signal before turning.
The suspect, who lives in Paterson NJ, was cited for several traffic violations, including careless driving, improper turn, and failure to inspect. Despite statements from witnesses suggesting that the witness may have been speeding, the suspect was not charged with speeding.
