A man who was living in a Montville NJ motel room faces murder charges for allegedly causing the beating death of his girlfriend’s young son.
According to law enforcement, the 28-year-old suspect severely beat the toddler. The assault occurred at the Knights Inn in the Pine Brook section of Montville, New Jersey, where the suspect was living with his girlfriend and her child.
Afterwards, the suspect dialed 911 and notified Montville law enforcement that the boy was choking. When Montville police officers arrived at the hotel, they found the victim battered and suffering from significant physical injuries. Additionally, the suspect’s girlfriend was reportedly bruised across her face and body.
The victim was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey. Three days after being admitted to the hospital for treatment, the victim was taken off life support and died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head. The child was just three years old when he died.
The suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and child endangerment shortly after the homicide in April 2015. The assault charges were later upgraded to first degree murder.
After being placed under arrest and charged, the suspect was taken to the Morris County Jail in Morristown, New Jersey. He has spent the past nine months in the correctional facility on a $1 million bail amount.
Now the suspect’s bail has been maintained at a massive $1 million amount. The suspect attempted to get his bail reduced to $250K, but a judge rejected the bail reduction request.
During the bail review hearing, Morris County prosecutors said that the suspect murdered “a defenseless little boy.”
