Florham Park NJ police recently arrested a local man accused of sexually assaulting a minor.
According to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect, a 52-year-old man from Florham Park, committed multiple acts of sexual assault with a victim who was between the ages of 16 and 18. The sex crimes allegedly occurred at the suspect’s home in Florham Park, New Jersey.
Florham Park police and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit began an investigation into the suspect after receiving a report that he had engaged in illicit sexual acts with the victim.
Investigators eventually determined that enough evidence existed to arrest the suspect.
The suspect has been charged with two counts of sexual assault.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the sexual assault charges, he faces significant criminal penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2, a person who commits an act of sexual penetration with another person who is at least 16 but less than 18 years old can be charged with a second degree felony. A conviction for second degree sexual assault could lead to a sentence of 5-10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility in Morristown, NJ. He was being held at the jail in lieu of a $100K bail amount. He was also ordered to have no contact with any minor who is under 18 years of age.
