Police in East Hanover NJ arrested a man suspected of robbing a local Babies ‘R Us at gunpoint.
According to authorities, the suspect, who hails from East Orange NJ, approached employees in the parking lot at the Babies ‘R Us on Route 10 around closing time in July.
According to the victims, the suspect flashed a handgun and forced them back inside the store. The suspect then allegedly held the employees at gunpoint and made them open the store safe. The suspect reportedly stole $5,500 before fleeing the scene.
The victims reported the robbery to East Hanover police. Witnesses later contacted the Morris County Sheriff’s Office to report that they had seen the suspect in the passenger seat of a white Honda sedan.
Police eventually identified the suspect; they finally apprehended him earlier this month. The suspect was charged with a number of criminal offenses, including robbery, burglary, theft of movable property, and possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose.
The most serious charge that the suspect faces is the robbery charge. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1, robbery is classified as a first degree felony if the offender uses a deadly weapon. The suspect in this case could be sentenced to 10–20 years in New Jersey State Prison if he is convicted of first degree armed robbery.
After being charged, the suspect was taken to the Morris County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail.
