Dover NJ detectives are conducting an investigation after authorities were notified of a body being found in the woods.
The victim is believed to be a 50-year-old homeless man who lives on the streets of Dover, New Jersey. The victim’s friend reportedly discovered his body in an encampment located near Richboynton Road in Dover, NJ.
Just before midnight on Friday, the Dover Police Department received a call about the deceased man. Police officers were dispatched to the area, where they saw that the victim had already passed away.
At this time, law enforcement officials do not believe that this is a case of homicide. However, coroners with the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Officer are still in the process of investigating the situation and attempting to determine the cause of the victim’s death.
If for some reason it turns out that the victim was murdered, it is possible that criminal charges for first degree murder would be forthcoming. Murder is the most serious crime listed in the NJ Criminal Code and can lead to a sentence of life imprisonment, with a minimum mandatory term of incarceration of 30 years.
