Police recently arrested a Dover New Jersey man accused of stealing a neighbor’s car.
The suspect is a 30-year-old man from Dover, NJ. According to authorities, the suspect illegally took a motor vehicle, a 1999 Honda Accord, from his neighbor’s yard and had the vehicle transported to a scrapyard.
The suspect allegedly had the vehicle moved by a tow truck. Prosecutors said that he called for a towing company and told the tow truck operator that he legally owned the Honda.
After the vehicle was transported to the scrapyard, the suspect once again claimed that he was the vehicle owner. He then collected $100 in cash.
The actual vehicle owner later became aware of the alleged theft and notified law enforcement. Dover NJ detectives investigated the situation and ultimately decided to arrest the suspect.
The suspect now faces criminal charges for theft by unlawful taking.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was released from police custody on his own recognizance. He will be required to submit to random drug testing and meet with a pretrial services worker while the criminal charges are still pending.
