Florham Park NJ police recently arrested a Chatham NJ woman who allegedly caused a DWI accident while her young daughter was present in the motor vehicle. Since authorities claim that a minor was in the car, the suspect has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
The suspect, a 25-year-old female resident of Chatham, New Jersey, allegedly drove her car along Brooklake Road, near Crescent Road, in Florham Park, New Jersey. As the suspect approached the intersection of Brooklake Road and Crescent Road, she allegedly lost control of the car and slammed into a tree located just off the roadway.
At the time of the alleged DWI accident, the suspect’s two-year-old daughter was reportedly sitting in the vehicle.
Chatham cops and paramedics arrived at the scene of the accident and removed both the suspect and her daughter from the car. The two vehicle occupants were transported via ambulance to Morristown Medical Center in Morristown NJ so that they could be treated for minor injuries.
While the suspect was at the hospital, medical staff drew blood. According to law enforcement officials, the blood test indicated that the suspect was over the legal limit in New Jersey of 0.08 percent blood alcohol content (BAC). As a result of the reported blood test results, the suspect was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and DWI in a school zone.
The suspect was also cited for numerous other traffic violations, including reckless driving, failure to properly use a car seat, failure to keep right, and failure to possess a registration card.
The most serious charges against the suspect could be the child endangerment charges. In addition to facing criminal penalties, the suspect may also be subject to an investigation by the NJ Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P).
