A Washington Township committee member faces drunk driving charges after he allegedly crashed his car on a local roadway.
The drunk driving accident allegedly went down late Friday night. According to law enforcement, the suspect was driving a 2013 Audi on West Mill Road in Washington Township NJ when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a utility pole.
Other motorists saw the aftermath of the car accident and dialed 911 to alert local authorities. The Washington Township Police Department dispatched police officers and emergency medical crews to the scene of the crash.
Members of the Long Valley First Aid Squad briefly treated the suspect for injuries at the scene before transporting him to Hackettstown Medical Center for additional medical treatment and observation.
The suspect is a 71-year-old male who lives in Washington Township and who serves as a member of the Washington Township committee. He has been issued a number of summonses for traffic violations, including Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), reckless driving, and failure to keep right.
The suspect has been a member of the Washington Township committee since 2010. He is currently running for reelection in November.
