Police recently arrested a Virginia man who allegedly engaged in sexually explicit conversations online with a Montville NJ girl.
The victim was reportedly between the ages of 12 and 14 when the sexual conversations occurred. The sex crimes allegedly started in October 2013.
Additionally, the suspect allegedly sent naked images to the underage victim.
Investigators first learned about the alleged sexual offenses in July. The victim told an acquaintance, who then notified local law enforcement. According to the victim, the suspect threatened to post sexually explicit videos of the girl on Instagram.
Morris County investigators spoke with the victim, who said that she had engaged in several online chats with the suspect during the previous two years. Eventually, said the victim, she and the suspect sent each other naked photos.
During the investigation, the victim spoke on the telephone with the suspect. The phone call was intercepted by detectives, who allegedly overheard the suspect admit to participating in sexually explicit online chats with the victim.
Morris County Prosecutor’s Office detectives traveled to Virginia to speak with the suspect. During the interview, the suspect reportedly admitted to engaging in sexual conversations with the victim.
The suspect was arrested in Waynesboro, Virginia. He was later extradited to New Jersey.
The suspect was subsequently charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was taken to the Morris County Jail in Morristown, NJ. He was being held at the jail in lieu of $125,000 bail. If the suspect does secure his release on bail, he will be barred from any contact with the victim.
