A Vernon Township NJ man has been charged with death by auto stemming from a fatal DWI accident.
According to law enforcement, the 24-year-old suspect was behind the wheel of a car involved in a tragic accident on Route 565 near Babtown Road in Vernon, New Jersey.
Vernon Township police officers received a report of a two-vehicle accident on the highway. When the officers arrived at the scene, they found a man trapped inside a red Ford. The victim, a 48-year-old man from Greenwood Lake, NY, was later pronounced dead at the scene of the DWI crash.
Vernon NJ police officers spotted the suspect standing next to the victim’s car. Police conducted a preliminary investigation and determined that the suspect was probably intoxicated at the time of the accident.
Since the other driver was killed in the accident, the suspect was later charged with death by auto. Additionally, the suspect has been cited for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), reckless driving, careless driving, and failure to keep right.
After being placed under arrest and charged, the suspect was taken to the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility in Newton, New Jersey. He was being held at the jail in lieu of a $50K bail amount.
