Franklin NJ police recently identified a suspect in the theft of $4,000 worth of merchandise from a local Walmart.
According to police, four suspects tried to commit a theft at the Walmart store just two days before Christmas. The four suspects allegedly entered the store and then attempted to walk out of the store with $3,000 worth of merchandise.
However, store security guards intercepted the suspects before they could get away with the items. The suspects quickly fled the scene.
Franklin NJ detectives investigated the attempted theft. Police are still seeking information on three of the suspects; the fourth suspect, a female, was recently identified.
A few weeks after the alleged shoplifting attempt, the female suspect allegedly walked into the same Walmart and tried to steal merchandise again. According to authorities, the suspect grabbed a shopping cart and began to place a number of items into it. Among the items the suspect allegedly stole from the store were an Xbox One, a Nintendo Wii U, and several video games.
After the incident, police issued a notice to the media and asked for assistance from members of the public in identifying the suspect. Investigators caught a break in the case when they were able to identify the 27-year-old suspect as the woman who entered the store on both occasions. According to police, the suspect is from Newark, New Jersey. Police found her at a residence in Newark and placed her under arrest.
Franklin police also arrested another woman at the residence because she was allegedly hindering apprehension. Police officers later discovered that she had an outstanding criminal warrant out of Newark.
Franklin NJ police are still looking into the first attempted theft at the Walmart store. Anyone who has information about the other suspects is asked to call detectives at 973-827-7700.
