A Roxbury New Jersey gas station attendant allegedly committed multiple sex crimes by groping two women during the past month.
According to law enforcement, the first incident occurred last month at the BP gas station located along Route 46 in the Ledgewood area of Roxbury Township. The victim, a 46-year-old woman, was reportedly attempting to pay for gas when the suspect, a gas station employee, grabbed the woman’s breast over her clothing.
The victim did not come forward to police until she saw a news report about another incident in which the suspect allegedly grabbed a woman’s breast at the gas station.
Roxbury NJ police investigated the second allegation and eventually obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect. Once the suspect became aware of the second criminal charge, he turned himself in to Roxbury police.
The 53-year-old suspect, who lives in Roxbury, has been charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact.
If the suspect is convicted on either count of criminal sexual contact, he would be subject to severe penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3, a person who commits an act of sexual contact that does not rise to the level of a sexual assault can be charged with a fourth degree felony and potentially sentenced to up to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility in Morristown, NJ. He was being held at the jail in lieu of a $10,000 bail amount.
