Roxbury police arrested a Hopatcong man and charged him with drunk driving after he allegedly caused a serious car accident.
According to police, a 37-year-old woman suffered serious injuries in the crash. She had reportedly just left Hopatcong State Park and was approaching the park’s exit when her vehicle was struck by a pickup truck.
The victim was initially treated at the scene before being airlifted to Morristown Memorial Hospital. The other passengers in the victim’s vehicle were not injured in the crash.
The 41-year-old driver of the pickup truck has been charged with drunk driving (DWI) and reckless driving.
A DWI charge is very serious and could result in significant penalties for the suspect in this case. If the suspect is a repeat offender, he could be subject to enhanced penalties that include a mandatory minimum sentence of 3 months in jail and a 10-year suspension of his driving privileges in the State of New Jersey.
While the victim recovers from her injuries, Roxbury police are continuing their investigation of the accident.
