Rockaway Borough police are investigating a recent burglary of a local business.
The theft incident occurred after hours. According to law enforcement, the break-in happened at Power Place, which is located on Route 46 in Rockaway Borough, New Jersey.
The Rockaway Borough Police Department received a call about the burglary when employees arrived at the store the following morning.
The suspect reportedly gained access to the business by smashing the front window.
Once the suspect was inside the building, he allegedly rummaged around and stole various items. Among the stolen merchandise were two Stihl chainsaws and one Stihl Demo saw.
Rockaway NJ police officers conducted an investigation and obtained video surveillance footage that reportedly shows the suspect breaking into the building and committing the theft.
Authorities recently posted a surveillance photograph of the suspect on the Rockaway police department’s Facebook page.
If investigators can eventually identify and apprehend the suspect, he would probably be subject to serious criminal charges for burglary and theft of movable property. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2, anyone who illegally enters a structure can be charged with a third degree criminal offense. A conviction for third degree burglary could result in a sentence of 3-5 years in New Jersey State Prison.
