Rockaway Borough NJ police arrested a 63-year-old man who allegedly distributed child pornography.
Authorities were first alerted to the suspect’s alleged illegal acts in 2011. According to prosecutors, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children provided a tip concerning the suspect’s alleged behavior.
Once authorities learned of the alleged conduct, they began an investigation. The joint investigation involved the Rockaway Borough Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes / Child Endangerment Unit.
Investigators eventually determined that the suspect had possessed and distributed child pornography. The suspect was then placed under arrest. The Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section reportedly assisted with the arrest.
The suspect has been charged with second degree distribution of child pornography and fourth degree possession of child pornography. Both charges are classified as child endangerment offenses. If the suspect is ultimately convicted of second degree endangering the welfare of a child, he could be sentenced to 5–10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
At this time, authorities have not revealed the format of the alleged child pornography. As a result, it is not yet known if the alleged child pornography was distributed via the Internet.
The investigation into the suspect remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information pertaining to this case is asked to call Morris County prosecutors at 973-285-6200.
