Riverdale New Jersey police recently arrested a man accused of attempting to purchase computers with fraudulent credit cards.
The theft incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. The Riverdale Police Department received a report of suspicious activity by a customer at a Target store located at 94 State Route 23 in Riverdale, NJ. A loss prevention officer at the store said that the suspect was trying to pay for a number of items, including laptop computers, using multiple credit cards. The suspect then reportedly left the store, only to return later and attempt to buy even more merchandise with different credit cards.
When a Riverdale patrol officer arrived at the store, he saw the suspect in the process of exiting the building. The police officer approached the suspect, who appeared to be nervous. The suspect then provided the patrol cop with a fake driver’s license out of Pennsylvania.
At some point, the suspect allegedly ran toward a waiting car, which quickly drove off. Another Riverdale police officer gave pursuit and quickly stopped the car when it got stuck in heavy traffic.
The 25-year-old driver and two passengers were removed from the vehicle. One of the suspects was allegedly found with a bag of marijuana, as well as numerous fake credit cards and driver’s licenses. A search of the car allegedly turned up merchandise from Best Buy and Toys “R” Us valued at more than $6,000. Authorities believe that the suspects used the fake credit cards to purchase the items from stores in Paramus, NJ.
The 27-year-old suspect who allegedly made the fraudulent purchases at Target is from Brooklyn, New York. He has been charged with credit card fraud, receiving stolen property, and eluding police. Meanwhile, the driver has been charged with receiving stolen property and simple possession of marijuana.
After being arrested and processed, all three suspects secured their releases from police custody by posting separate $50,000 bail amounts.
