East Hanover NJ police are searching for a suspect in the robbery of a Babies “R” Us store on Route 10.
According to officials, the robber walked up to several store employees who were in the process of locking up for the night and forced all of them back inside the store. The suspect then allegedly made the workers retreat into a back room so that he could steal cash from the store safe.
Police said that the suspect was armed with a handgun during the commission of the robbery.
Morris County CrimeStoppers later released information that the suspect was seen at a nearby business sometime after the robbery. Officials also reported that the suspect was seen in the passenger seat of a white Honda.
A description of the suspect has been released: he is said to be a black male standing approximately six feet tall. According to witnesses, the suspect was wearing a black sweatshirt, a black stocking mask, and torn blue jeans on the night of the robbery.
In accordance with N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1, armed robbery is treated as an extremely serious criminal offense under the NJ criminal code. If the suspect in this case is caught, he could be charged with first degree armed robbery. If he is convicted, the suspect could face up to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
Morris County CrimeStoppers has asked for the public’s assistance in identifying the robber. Anyone with information should call the CrimeStoppers tip line at 973-COP-CALL. A $1,000 cash reward has been offered to anyone who is able to provide information resulting in an arrest.
