Chester Township police are investigating an accident involving a school bus on Route 206.
According to authorities, the accident occurred at the intersection of Route 206 and Foxchase Road during early morning rush hour.
A Washington Township Board of Education school bus, with seven students on board, was on its way to West Morris Mendham High School. The 2003 Blue Bird Bus was reportedly crossing over the highway from Lamerson Road.
A Piscataway NJ man driving a 2011 Nissan Murano reportedly crashed into the bus while driving northbound on Route 206.
The 23-year-old driver of the car was injured as a result of the accident. Emergency medical responders transported him to Morristown Medical Center, where he received medical treatment for his injuries.
Thankfully, none of the high school students were injured in the accident.
After the accident, police shut down all but one lane on Route 206. Traffic alternated on the lane for approximately one hour before the other lanes were reopened.
According to a lieutenant with the Chester Township Police Department, police are actively investigating the accident and trying to determine the exact cause.
If police determine that the driver of the Nissan Murano was at fault, it’s possible that he could face charges for traffic offenses like reckless driving or careless driving.
