Pequannock NJ police are searching for a suspect who committed a burglary at a local residence.
According to law enforcement, the burglary occurred after midnight. The residents of a home on Munson Drive in Pequannock New Jersey were sleeping in a bedroom when the suspect reportedly broke into the house through a side window. The suspect allegedly smashed a lock on the window in order to gain access to the residence.
After entering the house, the suspect reportedly walked around in the kitchen. The homeowners were awakened by sounds of the suspect moving around and then saw the suspect on the home’s video surveillance system. The suspect was allegedly using light from a cell phone so that he could see clearly in the dark.
When the suspect realized that the homeowners were aware of his presence in the home, he ran outside and fled the area. The residents subsequently dialed 911 and contacted the Pequannock Police Department.
Pequannock detectives are actively investigating the burglary. At this time, police have not yet been able to identify or apprehend the suspect.
The suspect has been described as a tall man who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, gloves on his hands, and black sneakers on his feet.
If law enforcement can eventually determine the identity of the suspect, he would likely be charged with burglary.
Since nothing was stolen from the residence, it is unlikely that the suspect would face criminal charges for theft of movable property.
