Police arrested a 43-year-old Mount Olive NJ man and charged him with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
The suspect, who hails from the Budd Lake section of Mount Olive, allegedly forced the victim to engage in sexual relations with him. According to police, he also touched her breasts during the incident.
Prosecutors in the case said that the suspect was actually arrested on similar charges in 2006. However, charges of child endangerment and child abuse were reportedly dismissed after the suspect was admitted into a probation program.
As a result of the latest alleged incident, the suspect was charged with first degree aggravated sexual assault, child endangerment, and aggravated criminal sexual contact.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was taken to Morris County Correctional Facility, where he was held on $300,000 bail.
During a bail hearing in Morris County Superior Court in Morristown, the judge maintained the suspect’s high bail amount. The judge also ordered the suspect to stay away from the victim and to have no contact with anyone under the age of 16.
Although the suspect faces significant penalties in this case, prosecutors fear that he will avoid trial if he is released. That’s because the suspect is not a U.S. citizen and could be deported by federal immigration authorities prior to trial.
