Law enforcement recently arrested a Morristown NJ man who allegedly caused a DWI accident and struck a police patrol vehicle.
The incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. last Wednesday. The suspect, a 24-year-old man from Morristown, was reportedly driving his Jeep along West Park Place when he struck a marked patrol car. The collision caused slight damage to both motor vehicles.
At the time of the auto accident, a Morristown police officer was seated inside the police vehicle. He sustained minor injuries in the crash and required brief medical attention at Morristown Medical Center.
The suspect did not suffer any injuries as a result of the car accident. He was placed under arrest and charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) because police officers allegedly observed him showing signs of intoxication. The suspect was also cited for careless driving in connection with the motor vehicle accident.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the DWI charges, he could face severe penalties that include suspension of his driving privileges, heavy fines, and even jail time. The degree of the penalties would depend on whether the suspect has any prior convictions for drunk driving on his record.
