Law enforcement seized a small quantity of heroin after responding to a report of a fight on the side of a highway in Hanover, New Jersey.
Just before 11:00 a.m., New Jersey State Police received a call about a fight in progress around mile marker 2.1 on Route 24 West in Hanover Township, NJ. A state trooper was dispatched to the scene, where she did not encounter any sort of physical altercation. However, the NJ State trooper did come across the aftermath of a car accident.
One of the motorists had already left the scene of the accident because the damage to his vehicle was believed to be minor, while the other motorist remained at the scene of the crash. The state trooper spoke with driver and noticed a small amount of heroin in his vehicle, a 1999 Honda Accord.
According to authorities, the heroin was clearly visible inside the car. A subsequent search of the motor vehicle allegedly turned up an unspecified amount of heroin that had been stamped with a label reading “Beast Mode.”
The suspect is a 62-year-old man from Morristown, New Jersey. He was arrested at the scene and transported to Netcong police headquarters. Authorities later charged the suspect with multiple drug crimes, including possession of heroin and possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) in a motor vehicle.
After being placed under arrest and charged, the suspect was released from police custody on his own recognizance. He has a pending court date in Morris County Superior Court to address the criminal charges against him.
On the official Facebook page for NJ State Police, law enforcement issued a statement about the arrest. The statement indicated that use of heroin, whether it has been labeled “Beast Mode” or anything else, will only lead to “defeat.” The reality is that there has been a significant rise in the number of drug-related overdose deaths in the Garden State in the past year, prompting NJ police, prosecutors, and judges to crack down on anyone caught with even a small quantity of heroin.
