Police recently arrested a Morristown NJ woman accused of pickpocketing a number of people in stores throughout Morris County, New Jersey.
According to Morris Plains detectives, the 48-year-old suspect stole a purse from a woman who was shopping at Kohl’s. The victim’s purse reportedly contained $1,800 in cash.
The victim later found her purse on the floor between clothes racks in the store. However, the purse was empty by the time the victim located it.
Investigators believe that the suspect has committed similar thefts across Morris County, NJ. According to law enforcement, victims have reported identical incidents in Montville, Morristown, and Wharton. Additionally, similar thefts were previously reported in Essex County, including Millburn and Livingston.
In most of the previous theft incidents, the suspect allegedly stole from customers who were shopping. The victims in those cases left their purses and wallets unattended for a brief moment, thus giving the suspect an opportunity to commit the thefts.
Morris Plains NJ investigators were able to identify the suspect after obtaining video surveillance footage from the Kohl’s store in Morris Plains.
The suspect was later arrested and charged with theft of movable property.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was taken to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, NJ. She is being held at the correctional facility because of a reported probation violation.
The suspect will have to make an appearance in Morris County Superior Court at a later date to answer the theft charges against her.
