A former teacher at a drug treatment facility in Mendham New Jersey recently pleaded guilty to sex crime charges.
The suspect is a 30-year-old woman who lives in Pompton Lakes NJ and worked at Daytop Village in Mendham, NJ. Daytop Village is a treatment facility for teens with substance abuse problems.
The suspect served as an art teacher at the Mendham substance abuse treatment center until November 2014, when she was accused of committing sexual offenses. According to authorities, the suspect sexually touched at least one male resident at the drug treatment facility on his genitals. Additionally, the suspect showed naked photos to a second male resident at the facility.
The suspect was arrested and charged with multiple sex crimes, including sexual assault, criminal sexual contact, and child abuse. The child abuse charges stemmed from the allegation that the suspect showed naked pictures to a 17-year-old victim.
The suspect eventually avoided trial by reaching a plea agreement with Morris County prosecutors. The suspect pleaded guilty to just one count of criminal sexual contact, with prosecutors agreeing to recommend a sentence of probation.
The suspect will also be required to attend a substance abuse program and undergo mental health counseling. If the suspect violates the terms of her probation, she could still end up behind bars in New Jersey State Prison.
