More information has been released about a man who was recently arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a young girl in the Budd Lake area of Mount Olive, NJ.
It was initially reported that the suspect, along with another man, sexually assaulted the underage victim over a seven-year period. However, authorities have now indicated that the suspect committed the sex crimes between February 2002 and February 2004, a two-year period.
According to law enforcement officials, the 65-year-old suspect started to sexually abuse the victim when she was just seven years old. He reportedly did not stop the sexual abuse until the victim had turned nine years of age.
Early media accounts of the alleged crimes and the arrest stated the suspect was not alone when he committed the sexual offenses. Another man, a 33-year-old resident of Budd Lake who is believed to be related to the 65-year-old suspect, has also been accused of sexually assaulting the young girl.
In addition to being charged with aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault, both men face criminal charges for endangering the welfare of a child.
After being placed under arrest and charged, the 65-year-old suspect was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility in Morristown NJ. He was being held at the correctional facility in lieu of a $150K bail amount. Meanwhile, the young suspect was also transported to the Morris County Jail, where he was being held on a bail amount of $250,000.
