Jefferson New Jersey police are investigating a stabbing outside a local go-go bar.
The suspect, who lives in Wantage NJ, is accused of committing the violent act in the vicinity of the Daily Planet bar on Roosevelt Avenue in Jefferson, New Jersey.
Police received a report of a possible stabbing outside the strip club. However, by the time police officers arrived at the scene, everyone involved in the altercation had left the area.
Witnesses provided police with a description of the victim’s motor vehicle. A short time later, Sparta NJ police officers located the car and found the victim inside. The victim was bleeding profusely from the abdomen.
The victim was quickly transported by helicopter to Morristown Medical Center, where he received medical treatment for his injuries. He was later listed in stable condition.
The Morris County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit was called to the scene of the alleged stabbing. Detectives eventually identified a 45-year-old Wantage man as the suspect. At this time, it is unclear how police were able to identify him as the individual who had stabbed the victim. According to a police captain, they are “still trying to piece together the relationship [between the suspect and the victim] and what prompted the altercation.”
A week after the stabbing, an arrest warrant was issued for the suspect. A few days later, he was tracked down by New Jersey State Police and placed under arrest.
The suspect has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
If the suspect is convicted on the aggravated assault charges, he could be subject to significant penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b), anyone who attempts to cause bodily injury to another person while using a deadly weapon can be charged with a third degree felony and potentially sentenced to 3-5 years in New Jersey State Prison.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility in Morristown, NJ. He is being held at the jail on a $40,000 bail amount.
