Two men have been accused of stealing flat-screen televisions from a Riverdale, NJ electronics repair shop.
A Riverdale, NJ patrolman saw two men, later identified as 23-year-old Alberto Navarro-Cabral and 19-year-old Fernando Navarro-Castillo, sitting in a red Mercedes Benz that was parked behind a building at 1 North Corporate Drive in Riverdale. When the officer approached the vehicle and questioned the two men, they gave conflicting stories about what they were doing parked behind the building.
While questioning the men, the officer saw two TVs on a snowbank behind the car. The officer also saw two TV stands, a screwdriver, and a headband flashlight inside the car.
Police confiscated the two televisions and held Navarro-Cabral and Navarro-Castillo for questioning. The two men were eventually released from custody while police continued to investigate.
Authorities later discovered video surveillance that allegedly showed the two men climbing onto a trailer and removing the two TVs. After viewing this footage, police contacted the suspects and instructed them to turn themselves in.
Police believe that the men took the TVs from CVE, Inc., an electronics repair shop at which one of the suspects used to work.
Navarro-Cabral and Navarro-Castillo have both been charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, and theft.
In New Jersey, burglary is governed by N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2. As set forth by the statute, burglary is typically classified as a third degree criminal offense. In this case, Navarro-Cabral and Navarro-Castillo could each face up to five years in NJ State Prison.
After being charged, both men were released from custody pending a court appearance in Morris County Superior Court in Morristown, NJ.
