A Florham Park NJ man avoided jail time and instead received probation after pleading guilty to a sexual offense for having sex with an underage girl.
The suspect was 19 years of age when he engaged in sexual relations with two juveniles: a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl. The suspect reportedly had sex with the minors after meeting them at a “rave” party in East Hanover, New Jersey.
The suspect allegedly continued to have sexual relations with the 14-year-old female, which included having sex with her at least three times in his vehicle.
Law enforcement investigated the suspect after receiving a report of his alleged illegal activity. Police later placed the suspect under arrest and charged him with multiple counts of sexual assault.
Morris County prosecutors ultimately gave the suspect a plea offer that allowed him to stay out of prison. The suspect pleaded guilty to a single count of criminal sexual contact, with prosecutors agreeing to recommend a sentence of probation.
During a sentencing hearing in Morris County Superior Court in Morristown NJ, the suspect’s criminal defense attorney said that his client believed the victim was actually 16 years old. The suspect allegedly ended the relationship once he learned that the victim was just 14 years of age.
The superior court judge sentenced the suspect to one year of probation, as well as a requirement that the suspect register as a convicted sex offender under Megan’s Law.
