A Flanders NJ man who crashed his car on a local road has now been charged with drug crimes and Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).
The suspect was reportedly behind the wheel of a silver Mitsubishi and traveling on a road near the Overlook Apartment when he lost control of the car and slammed into a guardrail.
When Mount Olive police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical responders arrived at the scene, they saw that the victim was trapped inside his vehicle. Emergency crews worked to extricate the victim from the crushed vehicle by using hydraulic rescue tools to get into the car.
The victim was briefly treated at the scene of the auto accident and then transported to Morristown Medical Center so that he could receive further medical treatment and be evaluated for a possible concussion.
Meanwhile, during a subsequent search of the suspect’s car, Mount Olive police officers allegedly discovered a bag containing a small amount of heroin, as well as a metal pipe with possible heroin residue. As a result, the suspect was placed under arrest and charged with possession of heroin.
The suspect is a 55-year-old male who resides in the Flanders section of Mount Olive, New Jersey. He also faces drunk driving charges due to a blood test that allegedly showed his blood alcohol content (BAC) above the legal limit of .08 percent.
