Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly committed a robbery of an East Hanover jewelry store.
According to law enforcement, the suspect walked into Venicia Diamonds Jewelry around noon. The store is located at 460 Ridgedale Avenue in East Hanover, New Jersey.
The suspect allegedly stole cash and other items and then fled the scene, at which point store employees notified local law enforcement.
The East Hanover Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office are conducting a joint investigation into the robbery.
Authorities recently released a description of the suspect. He has been described as a 30-year-old white male who stands approximately 5-feet-11-inches tall. At the time of the theft, he reportedly had a goatee.
If investigators can eventually identify the suspect, he would probably face serious criminal charges. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1, robbery is ordinarily classified as a second degree crime. A conviction on second degree robbery charges could lead to a sentence of 5-10 years in NJ State Prison.
Police are asking for the public’s assistance with the investigation. Anyone who has information about the robbery or the suspect is asked to call Morris County CrimeStoppers at 973-COP-CALL.
