Dover NJ police arrested a man who allegedly caused a drunk driving accident and had a loaded handgun in his possession.
The car crash occurred around 10:55 p.m. According to law enforcement, the 25-year-old suspect was driving near East Fairview Avenue and the corner of North Sussex Street in Dover New Jersey when he was involved in an accident.
When Dover NJ police responded to the accident scene, they found the driver and observed that he appeared to be intoxicated.
Police officers administered field sobriety tests and a chemical breath test. The suspect’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was reportedly .10 percent, which is higher than the New Jersey legal limit of .08 percent.
While the suspect performed field sobriety tests, he reportedly favored his left leg. A subsequent search of the suspect allegedly led police to find a loaded .38-caliber gun on his ankle.
The suspect, who lives on Bowlby Street in Dover, has been charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) and unlawful possession of a weapon. Additionally, the suspect has been cited for multiple traffic violations.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was taken to the Morris County Jail in Morristown, NJ. He was later released after posting a $5K bail amount.
