A Budd Lake NJ man is headed to prison after pleading guilty to charges of attempted criminal sexual contact. The suspect reportedly tried to lure an underage female into his vehicle in order to have sex with her.
The incident occurred on June 3, 2015. The suspect was driving a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck in Mount Olive NJ and pulled over when he spotted the young victim walking on Route 46 near a Super 8 motel. He engaged the victim in conversation and allegedly tried to lure her inside his truck.
The minor was frightened and used a cell phone to call her mother. The mom later went to Mount Olive police and alerted them to the situation.
The suspect is a 26-year-old construction worker who lives in the Budd Lake area of Mount Olive, New Jersey. He was initially charged with the criminal offense of luring.
The suspect is now on his way to NJ State Prison after appearing in Morris County Superior Court and pleading guilty to the fourth degree felony charges for attempted criminal sexual contact. The suspect entered the guilty plea after reaching a plea deal with Morris County NJ prosecutors. If the suspect had fought the charges and gone to trial, he would have been subject to enhanced penalties because luring is classified as a second degree felony.
While appearing in Morris County Superior Court, which is located in Morristown NJ, the suspect reportedly broke down in tears. When he appears in superior court later this week, he will likely be sentenced to a term of incarceration of 180 days in the Morris County Jail. He will also probably be required to register as a convicted sex offender under Megan’s Law.
