Boonton Township police are investigating an alleged assault at a local residence on New Year’s Day.
Police were called to the scene after receiving a report of a fight. When police showed up, they found a man suffering from injuries. The victim told the officers that he had been assault by someone else at the residence.
According to authorities, the physical altercation stemmed from an argument. The end result was that the suspect allegedly hurled a trophy at the victim.
After hitting the victim with the trophy, the suspect then reportedly charged toward him and began to punch him in the face.
The victim reportedly suffered a severe laceration as a result of the attack. Additionally, police said that there was property damage throughout the residence.
Police placed the 27-year-old suspect under arrest. The suspect is reportedly from Boonton Township.
After being arrested, the suspect was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and criminal mischief.
The suspect was later transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility in Morristown NJ because he was unable to post the bail needed to secure his release.
At this time, police have not revealed the source of the argument between the suspect and the victim. It is also unclear if either of the participants in the fight lived at the residence.
