Montville NJ police arrested a Pennsylvania man who allegedly had a large amount of heroin during a traffic stop.
According to law enforcement, the 30-year-old suspect had 450 folds of heroin on him. He allegedly intended to sell the drugs.
The suspect was allegedly discovered with the drugs during a motor vehicle stop on Route 80 in the Pine Brook section of Montville, New Jersey.
A Montville police officer stopped the car and conducted an investigation. At some point, the officer reportedly found the suspect, a passenger in the vehicle, with heroin on his person.
The suspect has been charged with multiple drug crimes, including first degree possession of heroin with intent to distribute and third degree possession of heroin.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the most serious charges of distributing heroin, he faces significant penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5, possession of five ounces or more of heroin with intent to distribute is a first degree felony and is punishable by 10-20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
The suspect reportedly has prior criminal charges for hindering apprehension in Roxbury NJ and various juvenile offenses in Pennsylvania.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was taken to the Morris County Jail in Morristown, NJ. He was being held at the jail in lieu of $150,000 bail. During a bail review hearing in Morris County Superior Court, the judge agreed with the prosecutor that the suspect was a flight risk and kept the bail at $150K.
