A Wantage Township NJ man and his girlfriend were arrested after allegedly robbing a local bank.
According to authorities, the 33-year-old male suspect entered the Lakeland Bank located on Route 23 in Wantage, New Jersey. The male suspect allegedly had a gun in his pocket; however, he did not show the weapon to anyone inside the bank.
Once the suspect got the money from a bank teller, he fled the bank on foot.
Bank employees notified police shortly after the alleged theft.
Authorities conducted a 16-day investigation into the bank robbery. The joint investigation included the New Jersey State Police, the FBI, and the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Troopers and K9 units searched the area around the bank but were unable to find the suspects.
Investigators reviewed video surveillance footage from the bank and analyzed forensic and physical evidence obtained at the scene. Investigators also conducted interviews with numerous witnesses.
At the conclusion of the extensive investigation, police were able to locate and apprehend the suspects without incident. Both suspects are from Wantage.
The suspects have both been charged with robbery, theft of movable property, and credit card fraud. Additionally, the female suspect was charged with hindering apprehension.
The male suspect is being held at the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail. Meanwhile, the female suspect is being held at the facility on a $200,000 bail amount.
This was actually the second robbery of the Lakeland Bank in Wantage during the past year. A 27-year-old man allegedly robbed the bank in February 2014.
