Montclair NJ police arrested a man who allegedly stole a BMW and tried to elude police officers.
According to authorities, the 34-year-old Orange NJ man took a black BMW 428i from BMW of Morristown on Ridgedale Avenue. The suspect reportedly stole the vehicle while workers were preparing it for delivery to a customer.
Store employees notified local law enforcement, which sent out a statewide alert to all police departments.
A few hours after the alert was issued, Montclair NJ police officers reportedly saw the BMW parked in a parking lot at Lackawanna Plaza.
The officers approached the driver and attempted to place him under arrest. However, the suspect allegedly got out of the car and tried to flee the scene on foot. The officers chased the suspect for a brief time before catching him.
According to police, the suspect resisted when the officers tried to place handcuffs on him. The officers eventually subdued the suspect and placed him under arrest.
The suspect has been charged with receiving stolen property and resisting arrest. It is possible that he will face additional auto theft charges for allegedly stealing the BMW.
